Is anyone trading the Nikkei 225 Mini?

>Schaefer

As for holding overnight, I think that holds true for any
futures contract.

Market's open here now, so I'll get back to you later.
For now I'll just say that I trade JGB futures through
IB and Nikkei Mini through Japanese brokers. Both are
great for trading. IB's data for Japan is solid as a rock
with a short outage only once every few months.
OSE has a new computer system and bids/offers are
posted in under 1 second through Japanese brokers.
So I guess it's the same with IB. JGB orders to TSE take
3 to 4 seconds. But TSE will have a new computer system
for futures next January so the time should improve.

later...

There is a difference compared to holding globex contracts overnight during the week. You could have a stop order in the book that would execute overnight if need be with ES, NQ, etc. If you try to position or swing trade with Nikkei futures you can throw your stops out the window. I'm not sure I'd even want to hold a position over the lunch break, but I don't have enough experience with these contracts to know what kind of gaps you can get coming back from lunch.

I was referring to futures that do not trade 24h a day.

Gaps after lunch do occur from time to time, but they are
usually small and will rarely give you indigestion.

If you open an account with IB, make sure to tell them
to put you on the Hong Kong server. If you are on the
U.S. server, it will shut down for maintenance for a few
seconds/minutes during Asian trading hours.

FYI OSE will start an evening session 9/18 for Nikkei
futures and options. It will run from 4:30 to 7:00pm
Japan time.

I'll try to attach a copy of the Nikkei Mini bids/offers
here. This is after the close, and the total orders are
somewhat greater during trading hours and with no blank
prices. However, best bid 1 and best ask 1 are often
thin enough to make executions at these levels quite
easy.

Good luck

This chart of the Nikkei225 Mini since it was listed
may be of interest to you. The ATR may not be as
great as other futures. However, it is usually active
enough to create minor trends throughout the day
that provide numerous trading opportunities if you
do that type of trading.

Hi, Learner, thank you for tip regarding the Hong Kong server. I've been with IB for over 2 years, and I didn't know we could do that. Yeah, that server rest at midnight is annoying, I'll give them a call and ask.

OSE evening session, that'll be 3:30am to 6:00am (Eastern Time). I'll have to pass on this session. I know it's going to mess up my QT chart timings though, time to email Jerry :p

Don't know what I did wrong, but it looks like
you must expand the above attached chart for
it to print clearly.

Hi gaijin2006, yes, you have to expand it first, then print. I think the browser is shrinking the picture to fit inside the browser window.
