Is America today in line with the ideal of the founders?

America is still a massive, massive powerhouse when it comes to accepting immigrants. Off the charts compared to other countries, and that is only counting legal immigrants. Double it if you count in the illegals. Yeh, sure, maybe you are drinking your latte' and concluding that they would be prefer to go to Sweden or the Netherlands or Canada but out in the real world we are a powerhouse getting it done. And sure if you see the world as C++ programmer or something maybe Europe is your goal and life is groovy. Guess what though? Lots of immigrants to Europe are poor africans and their experience is not as groovy as you describe. Working at Arby's in Wyoming is step up over being stuck in some migrant camp in Italy for years.

You get bloviators like Justin Trudeau who said that he/Canada have Canadian values unlike the Americans so will accept any and all immigrants that the American turned back. Then he didnt take a single one and their legal immigration system is much, much more restrictive than the Americans.

Also the founders considered the American experiment to be about freedom, not just economic opportunity. And it was their hope that it would flourish in American and light a candle that might even spread further in the world and that has happened. If Europe is a better place now some of that can be attributed to the Americans who have helped to preserved freedoms there and provided support and inspiration for countries to try out the best parts of being an American. The founders were not googling around on the internet thinking "oh shit, sweden is getting ahead of us in accepting immigrants." Fine. Let more countries be free and prosper and go forth. That was always part of the vision.

We need to tighten immigration rules for those who want to come in legally to the US. I imagine some of the ET foreign trolls in this message boards that are attacking the US want to enter the US from their shithole countries. I say to keep them out permanently, by tightening US immigration laws. If President Donald Trump gets elected a 2nd term, I intend to continue urging him and all Republicans in office to further tighten US immigration laws so, the riff-raff ET foreign trolls do not get into the US at all. Stay in your countries. We do not want more Anti-American Socialists and Communists entering the the US.

I would like to see us take in 10 or 20 thousand Hong Kong upstanding types. And that number could be more if our allies put together a bigger package along with us. The Brits have a lead role here for historical reasons.

So to make room we will have to cut back on an equivalent number of MS-13 and Somali warlords. That will make some people here cry though.

We had immigrants who came here for the right reasons; to work hard and embrace America culture. Many of the immigrants today come to milk the system and fail to embrace our great American culture.

I came across this question from someone I went to high school with who teaches government and politics now.

He said most of his students said no but I say yes and he was pretty taken aback. We then had a pretty lengthy discussion and I‘m wondering if anybody here wanted to dip into this and share their thoughts.

I will give my thoughts later but I’m wondering what a broader opinion on this might be and don’t want to taint anyone else with my opinion - yet.

Its a stupid question that has no relevance. The founding of the country is not taught in school so at least 90% of American people do not have the slightest understanding of the ideals of the founders.

They let the leftists take over the education system in the 60s and 70s and its gone straight down hill ever since.

The question is, can it be saved.

None of what you wrote is true.

The founding of this country is taught in school.

if you disagree then it explains that either you were poorly home schooled or went to a really bad school...
My kid was even asked to discuss the Federalist papers in middle school and the Consitution...
