The ideal of the founders was never a social ideal but a power ideal - power to the people through the democratic process. And today that power, although under constant assault, is holding up.

But yes, I and many others are reaching a zero tolerance approach toward lefties trying to cast outright insurrection and destruction in the country as some kind of patriotic movement that has always characterized America. It is not. It is just thugs and trash threatening the citizenry and the framers intended protection for the people by their elected officials. And no, the fact that some/many people are peaceful protesters does not make that go away.

No, kids gloves treatment by extreme liberal Democrat mayors and governors. 1. The federal government is big & bloated and they control just about every aspect of our lives.
2. The federal government spends more than they take in and they add to the deficit every year.
3. The shift away from capitalism towards socialism / the shift away from independence towards dependence.
4. Giving up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety.
5. State & local governments that refuse to uphold the rule of law.

The definition of the word ideal:
satisfying one's conception of what is perfect; most suitable.

There's no way that our country as a whole would measure up to the ideals of our founding fathers.

Even lefty governor Kathleen Blanco of Louisiana issued a shoot to kill order for looters after Katrina. Mind you that shooting looters is not something that I would want to see as a first line, second line or third line of defense but I can get there in those instances where we are observing outright insurrection or destruction of the lives and livelihood of others and nothing else has worked.

In a place like Portland though, they have not even remotely tried to stop it so the government is complicit and enabling it. I would never support a situation where the government enables looting and then just decides to shoot people one day because it is hurting them in the polls. They have also sorts of options from use of national guard, locking up looters until trial versus catch and release, actually prosecuting them, supporting their own police departments, etc. etc. They are looting and occupying in places like Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis because the local and state governments think that it gives them street cred with progressives at the polls. That view is changing as the polls change. But they are not looting because it cannot be stopped by other means than shooting. They are looting because there is no will to stop them.

I wonder about Portland in the next couple weeks. It may let up because the polls are against them. I mean against the state and local politicians on their handling of it. The mob doesnt care about polls of course. On the other hand, the mob may take advantage of the fact that the national guard is all off fighting forest fires and related disasters so they know that the local police wont do anything, and the state police said they wont do anything because all the cases get dropped so why bother and now the national guard is not available. A normal person might think that they would let up while the rest of the state and parts of Portland too are on fire and there is a major disaster going on, but the progressive mind does not think that way. Great time to hit Best Buy in memory of George Floyd.
