Is a particular stock margin or not? Is there a database?

I usually do not know if a particular stock I want to purchase is of the margin variety or not. Generally, I find this out in the heat of doing an on-line purchase after checking data - after a considerable amount of work - only to find that the stock that I thought was a beauty is not margin-able.

Is there a database available where a trader can type in a stock symbol and immediately know if it is of the margin variety or not? This would save me a considerable amount of work. Please help!

most discount brokers usually have a list of stocks that are either (1) not marginable or (2) have a different margin rate posted on their website when you log into your account.....otherwise just call up the broker and ask them for information on the stock and they will tell you the margin rate, if it's shortable, ect...
