Issa Statement on Report that IRS Destroyed Lois Lerner’s Hard Drive
June 19, 2014

WASHINGTON –House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, issued the following statement on news that the IRS destroyed Lois Lerner’s hard drive containing e-mails from the time period of IRS targeting:

“If the IRS truly got rid of evidence in a way that violated the Federal Records Act and ensured the FBI never got a crack at recovering files from an official claiming a Fifth amendment protection against self-incrimination , this is proof their whole line about ‘losing’ e-mails in the targeting scandal was just one more attempted deception. Old and useless binders of information are still stored and maintained on federal agency shelves; official records, like the e-mails of a prominent official, don’t just disappear without a trace unless that was the intention.”

I suspect a 50% cut in the IRS' budget, which would mandate massive layoffs, would motivate some whistleblowers to come forward.
Why not eliminate the IRS entirely? That would be a wildly popular component of a conservative platform for several reasons and if ever the time was right, this is it.

Nothing here to see... not even a smidgeon of corruption... move on now.

White House hits back in IRS-Lois Lerner flap
The Obama administration on Wednesday struck back against Republican charges of an IRS cover-up by revealing that it found no direct emails between former IRS official Lois Lerner and White House officials in a search conducted for lawmakers.

Well thank goodness that was resolved. LOL

We have now officially reached the point that anything the White House or IRS (or Justice Department) say has zero credibility.

The IRS has been using the classic Clinton slow play tactic. Drag out every response to subpoenas, offer outrageous excuses, litigate everything, refuse to cooperate, then claim it is old news and a political attack.

Exactly. But on the plus side:

U.S. Supreme Court gives taxpayers more power to fight IRS summons
WASHINGTON Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:01am EDT

(Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday ruled unanimously that taxpayers have a right to challenge an Internal Revenue Service summons enforcement action in court when they can show the tax agency might have issued the summons in bad faith.
The tax-collecting IRS argued taxpayers already have opportunities to challenge a summons, but the nine justices ruled in favor of a Florida man who demanded an evidentiary hearing about the motives of IRS officials for issuing a summons.
Michael Clarke of West Palm Beach said the IRS issued a summons as retribution against him and his business partners for resisting an audit.
In a nine-page opinion written by Justice Elena Kagan, the Supreme Court said: "A taxpayer has a right to conduct an examination of IRS officials regarding their reasons for issuing a summons when he points to specific facts or circumstances plausibly raising an inference of bad faith."
The case is United States v Clarke et al, U.S. Supreme Court, No. 13-301
