Anyone else in Florida watching this with angst?

Up here in Tampa, where we've had the well-known "Tampa Shield" for so long, everyone has lost their minds already. Stores bare, generators sold out...I saw one woman leaving Publix with more toilet paper than my family could use in 6 months. I mean, really?

Hoping it'll miss us, but am beginning to think about putting my family on a plane and getting them out of here.

Naples, Port Royal. House will be fine, remodeled 3 yrs. ago, all concrete block. Boat is on it's way to Corpus Cristi. Irma is a cat 5 now. Better safe than sorry.

I remember. I used to live in the NY area. Every time there was a snow storm, people would freak and empty the stores, as if the plows wouldn't clean the streets in two or three days. Being in the food industry at the time, we loved it when storms came. Pantry loading was a big boost to sales.

I think this hurricane shit is different, though. This is my first time going through it and I'm not looking forward to it.

Dude, I'm biting my nails. There is nothing down here in the way of Water, Batteries. Nada. This could be very ugly. I've been through several including Andrew, but this one is very scary. Wilma was a cat 3 and my house felt like it wanted to rip off the foundation. Good luck.

Might want to think about getting out of there, El C. Remember, everyone will leave if a mandatory evac is put out (well, almost everyone) and the roads will be hell.

I lived in ft laud for fifteen years. By the time they start telling people to get out, it'll be too late to get on the road. Look for a concrete shelter that's not too low.

They're already calling for evac. Everything down here at least the walls are concrete block per code, but 185mph wind direct hit will tear a roof off like paper.
