How quickly the right wingers forget the attack on Max Cleland, a triple amputee and war hero, by the "slim boaters" and how they of course said nothing....

Of course they can (afaik editing was not involved though), but if this case ever goes to trial everyone will start suing everyone else for $85mln for taking interviews/words/quotes etc out of context. For this kind of money or even a slim chance to collect this kind of money everyone whose words appear in a magazine, newspaper, movie or on TV will claim to be "misinterpreted" and will sue.

Care to be more specific? All I recall about Cleland was he was running for the Senate and somehow thought he was immune from criticism for holding up the Homeland Security bill to force concessions for unions.

On the June 15 Rush Limbaugh Show, Limbaugh asserted, "[T]hat's not what the Republicans did, but the Democrats portrayed it that way":
