This is because of Medicare.

Remember, Medicaid unlike Medicare is not run entirely by the federal government which is why it's effectiveness is patchy. Conservative state governments try to destroy it at every opportunity.
 
Most cons want the poor to need private citizen's charity. They like nothing better than stories of a struggling family and bringing over some canned goods or some meatloaf if they are a cute family.

Their entry to heaven is based on 'good works' and the government by giving the poor subsistence is reducing their personal opportunity for 'godly charity'.

It is all scratch my back with them. They are nearly as distant from selflessness as Trump which is why they can tolerate him.
 
And Tammy doesn't get a pass for being more concerned about illegals than she is American citizens just because she's a veteran. Being a vet got her elected. Now she's just another political hack that is judged by what they do, not their never ending campaign stump speeches.
