I'm using "Americans" in the political sense, not each and every individual. Like when news-heads talk about "Iranians", they don't mean the guy selling food on the street but the people in charge.

I don't agree that the red states are just 'leaches' (sic). They are not as important economically as the coasts but they do have manufacturing and play a role.

Duterte was voted into power by the majority, so yes, he unfortunately represents the majority.

I think the point is the Brits no longer pose much of military threat by themselves. Obviously you have nuke subs but they are not all that much use in a situation like this.

You do point up how outdated and indeed dangerous NATO has become. The US has obligations under article 5 to go to war with Russia if some nutcase in a former Soviet bloc country starts a fight with them. Or we could get sucked into a war with Iran or your lot could be. Makes no sense, and even less when the euros are not holding up their end.

The UK and numerous other countries could create massive damage to the US in a war. Anyone who thinks otherwise has gotten far too comfortable. The biggest danger to world peace is the US and it's military first attitude and mentally unstable leader. Iran would be a massive undertaking for the US with no moral imperative to be there.
