IP address of the standalone software of my broker

How can I find out the IP address
of the stand-alone platform of my
broker ?

He doesn't want to disclose this for
whatever reason..

Sniff the packets going to your broker. Or if you have a router start its logger and then check where your internet traffic is being routed to when you are running the platform.

Open a command prompt and type "netstat -n"

Make sure your broker's platform is the only Internet program open on your computer.

TCPview from Sysinternals (now owned by Microsoft) will give you a real-time list of established TCP connections.

I am able to see the IP address of the
standalone program of the broker.

However for the other webbased
broker, I only see the name and not
an IP number ?!

Use the nslookup command-line utility to resolve a DNS name (eg. scottrade.com) to an IP address.

If you're on a Linux or BSD system, you can also use the dig utility.

I've used tcpview for years. It defaults to resolve addresses. Click on options then uncheck resolve addresses and it will show the ip address instead.
