Investing Journal - T2S

These guys are good..had me questioning myself and my thought process and ALMOST shook me out of CAT. I still have a long way to go for this to turn into what I was anticipating, but the position is finally in the green.

Trying to evaluate what I will do going forward with this junk. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to swing trade, get 5% in the hole on a position, be begging to get out at least breakeven, 2 days later im there, but now my mind switches back to my initial thesis of holding it for a 5%+ swing trade.

Last quarter was my first quarter in 5 quarters of underperformance, and it was a pretty hefty underperformance. Got some makeup to do to finish this year strong. I'm still 6% ahead of the S&P for the year, but that's not really too acceptable for me. Let's hope for a strong final quarter.
 
Any swing traders around? I'd like to see some other posts in here if you guys want to. I'm a little dry on trade ideas atm even after looking at about 100+ charts this morning.

I have 25% cash right now that I want to trim to at least 5% via equity holdings.

I generally stay away from pharam/healthcare stocks just because I don't really understand them too well. I feel like they rely too heavily on patents, product pipelines, and everything else..which I guess is every company but just feel like they are more vulnerable. However I'm looking at PFE. They are in an obvious uptrend at the moment and looks like they have plenty of room to run until the $28 area
 
What is your definition of swing? 1-2 week holding periods?

Judging by your previous posts, I would look to buy mkt leaders. Housing and REITS have been strong
 
just liquidated everything on the early GOOG release. I don't like the feeling this market is giving me.

Made a profit on CAT, UTX, lost a little on CSCO.

will likely stay cash until earnings are over, may pick up some names that have already announced.

namely looking at IBM
 
im up about 4% today from selling everything right after the GOOG crap yesterday. was going to stay cash longer but seeing some really decent buys out there and getting trigger hungry
 
just realized i didnt do an update for last week.

Decent week for once thanks to my fire sale on Thursday.

Currently all cash still. looking at getting back into CAT now that earnings have been announced and they were about nuetral. Other then that not too sure what im going to do here.
 
shameless plug but as posted in my journal on may 30th of this year i went from all cash to all back in long, it took the market 2 more days to find the bottom. i then sold everything on thursday and the market has dropped 500 pts in 3 days.

Now I just need to work more on stock selection.

So many moving parts to being successful. make excellent macro calls, but get killed on micro calls. luckily this is helping my underperformance that I experienced the previous quarter.
