If I understood it correctly they cancelled or lowered intraday lower margins.
I believe the outage was made change the software.

Yeah they canceled intraday margin due to the vola at the markets.

Actually might be a good thing for newbies, protecting them from hurting themselves trading

Might be good for experienced traders too, every stock crash a few stock brokers goes belly up.

I think IB is being responsible.

From that site it is true that it is a good thing that they cancelled it. But the did not increase the overnight margin, it rather increase that margin instead of the intraday margin where you will, if trading futures etc., have a stop in there too.

Oh well it doesn't really matter, as we are trading the Forex.
