Politics aside, you have to give credit where credit is due.
Biden's now famous, or infamous, depending on which side you sit... he (or whoever directed the prose of that speech) basically buried Trump's whole MAGA branding.
I mean hat sales aside (that has nothing to do with it)... your typical American Trump voter... one that is not an extremest but agrees with his economic and geopolitical policies regarding energy, the border, military posturing, etc etc.... they won't be caught dead wearing a MAGA hat now. Or a bumper sticker... or anything else.
In essence, in one fell speech, Biden chopped the balls off of 6 years of Trump branding.
Agree or not, it was a very strategic play.
Pundits that analyze the polls say many are "afraid" to admit they are Trump supporters so the numbers cannot be assumed to be accurate. Well think about this, if that's the case, who in the hell now would dare wear a MAGA hat to a social event?
They'd be labeled as a nut or a pariah to half the people at the event.
No one as a whole wants that label attached to them.
So say what you want, but the Dems pulled off a brilliant move with this one.
They hit Trump square in the balls, right where he lives and breathes... branding.
He loved the whole "MAGA" thing.
Now... with all that said... in the bigger picture, this will of course only serve to fuel the divisiveness in our country even more, because there will be people that will still wear that hat. And they will be bashed. But as a whole, I bet if you took 100 people that would wear a MAGA hat 2 months ago, that number has been reduced to 20... tops, even though the way they will vote will not change.
Wear that hat now, and you'll be perceived as a Capitol storming, tiki torch carrying, extremist.
It basically sends Trump voters, for lack of a better analogy, further into the closet.
Don't shoot the messenger here... I am merely pointing it out for what it was... good or bad... a strategic move that I can promise has Trump's inner circle roiling over what to do. Again... hat sales aside.
