Quote from Madison:

that seems to be the case at least for some of the exaggerated, immature versions shown in this thread. much of this is a group-identity exercise and a way to get attention and disobey "the man" without any actual risk.

however, their activities do not preclude a rational, educated view from the left (or at least from the non-right, to the extent that distinction matters to discussion on et), with an appreciation for the intolerances and errors on both sides. take a look at http://www.juancole.com/ for one example.
Nothing wrong with his commentary. I can agree with some points and disagree w/ others. Great.

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

I find it extremely interesting, not to mention ironic, that the extreme left, which champions radical feminism, homosexual rights, abortion on demand, sexual freedom and legalized drugs, seems to support the radical islamists. Don't they understand that to those islamofascists, Bush and the republicans are the face of radical liberalism. The Berkely/Sf protest crowd would be immediately put in prison or executed. I know they reflexively support our country's enemies, but how can they support groups that violently oppose everything they claim to stand for?

Because there's something the left hates even more than subjugation of woman, death penalties, religious intolerance, abridgement of freedom of speech/press, prohibition, anti-abortion and living under a theocracy all wrapped up together - and that is the USA. Anything is better, even if it violates every other basic belief from the left. Their central, overwhelming, trumps-all-others idea is that the USA is the worst thing ever and responsible for all the bad things in the world.

Many liberals hate the USA the way it is under Bush's leadership, the same way a New York Knicks fan may hate the way the Knicks are under Isiah Thomas's leadership.

The same liberals didn't hate the US under Clinton, so your argument, or statement, is fully nonsensical.

Unlike the totalitarian thinkers on the right, who live by a "love the right wing president, or leave the country" there are those who have a different vision of what they think is best for the country.

Blind following is not patriotism.....and America is not the particular president de jour, it is possible to be fully in love with America yet hate the direction America is moving in.

The constant moaning and bitching about Clinton during his presidency by the right wing (that bitching continues, strangely enough today....it is nearly impossible to turn on right wing radio and not hear diatribes concerning Clinton) didn't signal a hatred of the USA.....

But these people are not just hating the current government. They are openly supporting terrorists and foreign governments that would like nothing better than to nuke us. Domestically, the same liberals swoon over cop killers, gang leaders and hired killers. They despise U.S. soldiers, people of faith(other than muslims) and employers.

Once again, we see that it is simply not safe to put Democrats in charge of the government. Even the more sensible ones elevate legalisms over preventing terrorist attacks.

I repeat- California should be blown up.

Agreed. It's like those fucking wackos are from another planet. They hate the U.S. and love everything that's bad for the U.S.
