Statistically, most "malware" comes from visiting dodgy Web-sites (and often being tricked into downloading dodgy software). Given most malware is targeting the PC as a dominating platform, using Safari, the MacOS default Web-browser, helps.

I haven't heard of malware embedded into MPEG files...

Two movie stars have sex, they film it, the maid steals it and sells it, why dont the two celebrities have any property rights and stop the sell of said dvd? This has happened numerous times and I always wondered why the two who created it dont have any rights to profits or stopping the sale of the dvds.
You can patent a process, when people put cookies to follow you around on the internet isnt that a violation of how you process on the internet and why isnt that protected, and why arent you compensated for allowing others to follow you around. Or do we have these rights and just not excercise them?

They can't stop it because they don't have a contract with the maid regarding what persentage of revenue they get.

The actors' trade union rules say that if a person says 6 or more words during the movie, they are "an actor" and are entitled for a percentage (the exact value is negatiable) of the future revenue from the movie. That's the main reason that there very few extras who get to say something in movies.

Returning to the maid's "celebrity sex" movie, it's probably considered a "documentary" and the actors are not "acting". In countries like the UK such a movie would be considered an invasion of privacy and the celebrities involved would apply for "superinjunction", which would ban the maid from not only selling the movie but even from telling anyone of its existance.

"Illegal" downloading also creates a lot of jobs.

Bands for instance have to tour far more to make money. Their tours support a very diversified part of the economy globally.

It supports hardware sales and internet provider income for people aiming to store or get acces to download content.

It provides more purchasing power to the people who can now spend their money on other things.

Intellectual property was going to get more draconian every decade anyway. Having a generation that pushes things in the other direction, if only for a while, is healthy to me.

they most likely can stop it... if they find the source and get an injuction.
you have a property right in your likeness and image especially in commercial products.

There is a tradeoff for public figures which involves a balancing act... but I doubt someone can sell their private tapes without consent.

Compensating the creators for a limited amount of time is only fair and gives them incentive to create more. Compensating them for the rest of their lives causes them to stop creating. Compensating their lazy spouses and descendants is just irrational.
