Which one is the best? And is it safe anyway? heard you can catch some virus with IM Does it bog down your machine at all? I am thinking about using MSN Messenger but I just hate downloading new stuff it just causes problems.
 
i don't use them (messengers) anymore, but i do know that zonealarm has a product designed to work with messengers to enhance security.

i was using trillian, which was nice in that it could run your msn, yahoo, and (maybe) aol ID's at the same time.
