installed microsoft .net

i did windows update and installed some .net thing. i have win xp pro.... now when i go to control panel/user accounts, i see my account, guest, and "ASP.NET Machine A..."

what the hell is the user account "ASP.NET Machine A..." ?!!?!?

if you instal .net you get it, I have it too. Now if you want to un-install a rogue VB .net program then I get some tip.

It's the runtime environment for applications written using Microsoft's .NET platform. There is no harm in having the .NET runtime installed on your machine.

Have you ever run a Visual Basic program and it said "cannot find vbrun300.dll"? Well, this is the same sort of concept, but the runtime is much larger and much more robust.

The account is created on your system to allow the ASP.NET worker process to run in the least privileged environment mode; instead of running in the local user process space, which very likely has administrative privileges.
