Fifth columnists - the expression that was used in Russia to describe the idiot "baby Marxists" that their programs were intended to train up in America - translates quite well into English, although it doesn't carry nearly the freight it did in that original usage. But I can assure you that this is how I still mean it - and it's perfectly appropriate and descriptive.

As for "the MAGA cult" - as far as I understand the various players (I don't pay too much attention, but enough leaks through), that's how you describe conservatives, right? That would make your attempt at redirection that much more hilariously inept - because, while would-be Marxists like you have a direct, obvious, and easily-identified enemy country that they're stooges for, conservatives are specifically about individualism and US-centered nationalism. Sure, there are plenty of negatives to that side as well - but what prospective invading country's army are they supposed to be shilling for? My, there's a poser for you...

A congresswoman is clearly one of the poor, oppressed, and immiserated, with nothing to lose but her chains; she clearly risks her life and freedom to expose the machinations of the... um, government that pays her... uh... that she takes part in directing via her position in it...

It would seem the present far-right in the U.S. is unique in modern history. The party members profess to believe in conspiracies that would require a series of low-probability, linked events to occur such that the overall probability would approach zero. What gets even weirder is they readily accept as true the most cockamamie tales one can imagine posted on social media. There can be no doubt that an element of pure lunacy is associated with far right politics in the U.S. today.

I don't think a comparable thing has ever happened in the history of the world in what would have otherwise been characterized as a "mainstream" political party. We have got to stop thinking of Republicans as mainstream and rational. The old GOP is dead. There is only one rational political party left in the U.S. One can assume democratic principles still hold and discuss policy on a rational basis with Democrats. That can no longer be said of Republicans who will no longer accept the results of elections, thus rejecting a corner stone of democracy.

It seems virtually all the rational Republicans remaining have distanced themselves from the official party. Although these outcast, former Republicans are still referring to themselves as "Republicans," I suppose it's only because they don't know what else to call themselves. The party name "Republican" has been co-opted by lunatics and fools. The party's acknowledged leader is a pathological liar days away from going on trial for bank fraud and is facing what appears to be certain indictment for felony charges. Nevertheless the ship of Republican fools sails on into the storm with stalwart party members willingly lashed to the mast. Why are we still treating the so-called "Republican Party" as though it were somehow a legitimate representation of anything other than blithering fools?

I think you're over-optimistic, by exactly one party. Fanaticism and the inability to hear the opposing viewpoint have become endemic in this culture - and thinking that political affiliation somehow manages to eliminate it, or even skew the distribution is naive at best.

There's exactly zero room left for statesmen at the top - only politicians can make it through the (properly-termed) toxic swamp of the DC mill. I'm never going to be a community organizer or anything of the sort, and my belief in the ability of the individual voter to affect anything is, at this point, indistinguishable from non-existent - so I don't normally even participate in political threads, and avoid politics as much as possible. I do despise Marxists and their brainless tools here, but that's purely an artifact of knowing exactly how they were created and how they're maintained, but outside of that - I don't even care who the president is, or who is toadying up to whom in those halls of power. Got better things to do with my time, and can't change it an iota anyway.

Please tell me what you have actually done in your life that has materially affected the outcomes in politics at the national level. Provably and traceably so - "I voted" being a hope-and-pray strategy with an endless number of invisible points of failure. Feel free to include everyone you know, for the slightest measurable effect. I'll wait.

(I'll add this: my position isn't based on some sort of immature nihilism or a supine moral position. I was US Army military intelligence - OPFOR at Ft. Lewis and... other things, and I've seen how the sausage is made.)

Exactly why we need to devolve federal power back to the states, then we can all choose under what type of government to live within reason. The supreme court had it right, let each state choose as politics is way better at the local level where power hungry jerks cannot turn complicated issues into slogans and stupid abstractions

Need to get rid of archaic Electoral College. Members of Congress, states legislatures, county, cities and towns officials are all voted one person one vote.

Dems in Red States and Reps in Blue States have no say. While Purple States get all the attention, read that as big money. Only winners with that are social and local media, fundraisers, PR firms and transportation companies.

But no sure what you mean the Supreme Court had it right letting states choose their politics. They have stepped in sometimes and other times not.
