The terrorist situation in Chechnya has not changed much. I would assume that to the common sense individual that an occupation plagued with terrorism is much better than the war that was endured in Chechnya. Darkhorse seems to imply in his post that the economic situation in Russia is not favorable. That is 100% US I-Bank propaganda who cannot get a firm hold on Russia investments and stock market due to the restrictions put in by Putin on foreign investment. Investments in Russia have multiplied 20-50 times fold over the past 5 years and still have not come close to the zenith. The whole country is a goldmine and has the resources to be completely self sufficient (this has been done in the Cold War). There is so much money in Moscow from the oil trading that the city is expanding at a rapid rate.
In regards to the correction, Russian stock market is very volatile and those corrections are normal. It goes through non stop phases of being overvalued then undervalued. There is no uptick rule, no specialists, no MMs, minimal central bank involvement. It is a real trader's market where an overvalued equity gets put back in its place quickly unlike the ridiculous chop low volume crap we get here in the US. This past correction was warranted by the fundamentals as well as the geopolitics but it is nothing to fear or view as unordinary to the Russian market.

The main reason the US dominates the trading world is because of 3 key factors. Liquidity, Relative Stability, Fair regulation. Although regulation is not as perfect as some like especially for the retail trader.. overall its pretty decent. The fairest market to trade are the futures imho... it has none of the crap you are talking about.. again u might not realize this, since u have such a narrow view and limited experience.
Because the volatility of the markets have come down.. it is favorable for the longer term big money.. which believe it or no actually benefits the US economy. Maybe no one told u that not everyone that invests in the stock market is looking to scalp 1000 shares MRK for 15 cents.
Only a true idiot would welcome a stock market that is super volatile and unregulated.. and in Russia's case highly manipulated by large pools of big money... ever hear of the term cornering the market? Russia is notorious for this. When a market is not regulated big pools of money can do things that are crazy. Did u know that its illegal for highly captilized institutions to move large amounts of leveraged money across many different countries within the same directional bias within a given amount of time.. which would mimmic a crash. Look back in history what happened in the early 1900's... it was a mess.

What the heck are you talking about? If you weren't a cheerleader for Russia, I don't think any of my statements would have ruffled your feathers.
Do a search on Yukos, Khodorkovsky, Chechnya. And by the way I don't just rely on what I read; I have friends in St Petersburg (Russia, not Florida).
In the short run, perception matters more than fact. If you want to disagree with my opinion, feel free. But calling it "propaganda" is highly illogical.
p.s. I said Putin is looking like a dictator, not that he is one. I also never said the Russian economic climate was unfavorable. If anything I said the opposite, that in favorable macro conditions Putin and Chechnya were overlooked.
