India to overtake China in 2020

India and the USA view each other as a collective counterweight to the growing economic and strategic influence of China.

Obama will in fact be in India this November, strengthening their shared strategic vision.

India is no China and will not be for a long while, but what India shares with the USA is
1) a pluralistic democracy
2) an identical threat perception of China

This is why the USA will be backing the Indians for the foreseeable future. It's in our interests to back India at least in the strategic sense, even if we withdraw from the offshoring game.

Agree on the usa/india shared threat vs china. But people keep bringing up democracy in india as some sort of advantage/positive.

The indian version of democracy is one of the main reason why the country is such a shit hole and nothing ever gets done. They took american democracy, stripped out all the positive/efficient components, then added layers upon layers of additional bureaucracy (which goes hand in hand with corruption). The end result is a system that is only democratic by name.

There is a high probabilty that after 2020 it will be a question of space colonization and not an earth based soveriegn land. Africa does not have the manpower(population) to over take India as the global power.
