Excess deaths a bit higher year over year. Nothing to panic about. Virtually no hospitals overrun. Dem governors destroyed their states. Trump banned travel and was called a racist. Here's the problem...the virus was raging in Europe when Trump closed the border to China on February 2nd.
Infected people from Europe travel into the United States in the hundreds of thousands without being temperature checked upon arrival at the airports, no contact tracing for those sick and no quarantine...border was not closed to Europe until March 13th Friday after he announced it on March 12th.
- Look at the above difference in days of so called travel bans between China to Europe...+40 days of infected people from Europe entering the United States.
Simply, countries not part of the Schengen EU were allowed to enter the U.S. freely as in exempt from the ban...such as United Kingdom. Today, we now know the UK is a source of one of the key variants of Covid. It was only many months later that all countries in Europe were not allowed to travel to the U.S....essentially...it was too late to stop Covid and its variants.
It had spread too easily to the U.S. because of the inadequate border closures, too many exempts for travelers and the many days difference between the closure from China to Europe.
Trumps bias against China was the problem...he failed and forgot about the importance of border closures to Europe until it was too late. In fact, he bragged at a rally that he shut the borders in a timely fashion...not mentioning the countries that were allowed to enter the U.S. from the European Union and not mentioning "exempt travelers" from both China and Europe.

Here's the big problem with both travel bans (China / Europe)...U.S. citizens returning (thousands) were exempt. Further, the travel ban from Europe actually only involved a particular region in Europe refer to as Schengen area of Europe.
