You would think that after watching the overwhelming deaths in Italy and Spain in early 2020 -- that Sweden would have their strategy in place by the time COVID appeared in Sweden. Sadly their strategy was "natural herd immunity" which failed miserably. In no way was Sweden caught unaware of COVID at the onset. Any statement that the elderly in Sweden died before the country had a strategy in place is absurd.
Completely agree...
-----------
Preparedness
In
risk and
impact assessments by the
Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, the Swedish expert agency on
crisis management, the risk of Sweden in the future being affected by a severe pandemic was assessed as "high" with a "catastrophic" impact on human health and economics. They believed that a future pandemic would be inevitable within 5–50 years.
In the
2019 Global Health Security Index of the ‘most prepared’ countries in the world for an epidemic or a pandemic published by the
Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, Sweden was ranked 7th overall. Sweden received high rankings regarding prevention of the emergence of a new
pathogen, early detection and reporting of an epidemic of international concern and having a low risk environment.
- However, the Swedish healthcare system received a lower score, questioning if it was sufficient and robust enough to treat the sick and protect health workers.
In 2013, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency investigated Sweden's ability to cope with a pandemic through a simulation where a severe
avian influenza infects a third of the population, out of which 190,000 gets severely ill, and up to 10,000 die from the disease.
They concluded that Sweden was generally well prepared, with pandemic plans on both national and regional level, but that the
health-care system would be the weak link. They noted that Swedish hospitals were already under heavy burden, and would not have the capacity to treat everyone who become sick, even when alternative facilities (like schools and sports centres) were used as hospitals. They also pointed out that issues concerning prioritizing, including
triage, would become central during the crisis, and that they believed this subject needed to be addressed.....

Guess what...Sweden and the world then gets hit with a Pandemic and Sweden never fixed the weak links in their healthcare system that allowed Covid to hit hard their ethnic communities, individuals with underlying medical conditions and the elderly.
- Look at the years above...2013 and 2019.
Covid hits in early 2020 in which Tegnell and gang knew they weren't prepared. They then decide what they thought would be the best approach...
Natural Herd Immunity in hopes of removing any responsibility of the problems in their healthcare policy.
Essentially they did nothing as in a Lockdown Lite policy. It attracted the world attention of those that do not believe in lockdowns / restrictions.
Yet, as the year progressed...Sweden Health Officials and Tegnell started openly discussing their approach to the Pandemic had
failed but they could not admit it was the Natural Herd Immunity policy.
Regardless, it doesn't matter the name of their policy. The fact is that their policy they used was the same policy in place prior to the Pandemic that involved protecting the freedoms & liberties of their citizens.
- Actually, I believe Sweden healthcare policy was in line with their Constitution involving their Freedoms in which Sweden change an aspect of the law either late 2020 or early 2021 to allow it to use a lockdown if / when needed (links posted early in the year).
Simply, the fact is that Sweden did very little until the vaccinations and strict restrictions of 2021 until they made a "change" in their constitution that open the door for more strict restrictions and a possible lockdown if needed.
Sweden had it's COVID strategy in place well before these deaths. In fact all the "no lockdown" advocates were already promoting the Swedish strategy well before the spike. In fact this thread was created by wildchild in March of 2020 in an attempt to promote Sweden's disastrous COVID strategy.
Sweden's health care policy and reminders about their freedoms as in law of their Constitution had
already been promoted at least late January 2020 when I first made a post about Sweden's healthcare policy in another thread. Also, you're correct...when this thread was created in March of 2020...I think it was almost 2 weeks after Sweden's first known Covid death involving someone that returned back from Wuhan.
To be more precise...the thread starter
wildchild had already started calling other Covid news stories as "hoaxes" and referring to other members that warned about Covid as "hoaxsters" back in January of 2020 in which he then gradually started using the name of Sweden...
- Then Sweden had their first Covid death on March 11th in Stockholm in which the deaths then exploded in a grand fashion in Sweden after March 11th.
The Covid Denier wildchild then started this thread on March 30th, 2020 but only after arguing with multiple members about Covid for a few months earlier. He then abandon this thread in May when he realized that Covid was real and the world was going to be fucked.
In his opening post of this thread...he compares Sweden to Denmark and Norway...Scandinavia.
