And how did the lockdown and restrictions do tremendous harm? Keep in mind that India only endured a huge surge when they opened up this year and allowed very large, non-socially distanced political and religious rallies which led to wide-scale spread of COVID across the country.
As I said, it wasn't until India "embraced re-open/herd immunity" that numbers exploded. India's initial lockdown, albeit unpopular had kept number relatively low for their pop. density.
lockdowns simply put off the inevitable... remember they were designed to flatten the curve by shifting the virus out over time...
Unfortunately they also extinguish some of the immunity the population builds up..
when you lock down and then let let everyone out... you get massive second waves as we saw all over the world. (as many of us predicted... so the lockdowns failed over and over.)
The proper approach was to isolate and protect the high risk better and let the low risk live their lives... as few of them wind up in the ICU. If the low risk are scared they protect themselves how they wish.
never in history were we so stupid that we would locked down low risk people over entire states and countries... when there was space in hospitals....

There's an obvious pattern...Elections, Covid Misinformation and lack of medical supplies (e.g. oxygen). Perfect storm for abnormal number of deaths...as Sweden health officials and Tegnell would say via their own words...

The amazing aspect with all the horror news stories out of India the past few weeks...
Sweden still beats India in the number of deaths.
With that said, I strongly agree with you, had Sweden had a health system like Brazil or India while embracing Natural Herd Immunity...Sweden would have easily lost many more lives than their poor performance...
A failed experiment admitted by Tegnell himself plus their GDP still suffered and they had increasing suicides.

How is doing India doing right now. With widespread COVID and a huge death toll after eliminating restrictions... their economy and healthcare system is in much worse shape than anything experienced in March of 2020.
At this point this article and study created by anti-lockdown advocates last year should be viewed in hindsight as some of the most idiotic medical studies put forward in the past decade.
If you want to see how to successfully address COVID then look at New Zealand.
Around 4000 deatha a day linked to covid if we are to believe their stats. For a population of 1366M people, much lower ratio than what most european countries have been through at least a couple of times since covid showed up. I suspect India s healthcare was easily overlwhelmed even before covid, and on any day there it s easy to find utter disarray. But it makes pussies like u wet when medias plaster it in front news and tag Covid on it.
