In the Coronavirus Fight in Scandinavia, Sweden Stands Apart

Compared to the United States...

Sweden not doing that bad. Yet, now that people in the United States are now being vaccinated and there's a new administration that's going to lead by example...

We should start seeing a slow decline in the infections, hospitalization and deaths via Covid-19.

Strangely, I have not been hearing any news out of Sweden about their vaccination program.

gwb-trading, have you read anything out of Sweden about their vaccination program ???

Edit: Found a news link about Sweden's vaccination of Covid-19.

Sweden should soon be seeing a slow decline too in their infections, hospitalization and deaths from Covid-19.

As of Sunday, Sweden has vaccinated 147,000 people, or 1.47 percent of the population. They have had 136 people with suspected side effects. The King and Queen of Sweden got the vaccine and urged Swedes to take it.

Wow...only 1.47% of the population.

Sweden and all countries need to get to 10% vaccination to see a dramatic impact in the infections, hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19.

I'll check later in the way about the vaccination process in those key countries that were outperforming Sweden like New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea because I'm becoming more curious about these countries too.

Sweden 2020 deaths - only a few percentage points above the 5 year average.
No masks no lockdowns no major changes.
Sweden was the model!

1. first of all .. I did not see any sort of report for Tuesday from you so there was no math to do... that is why I asked for the link.

2. based on the links you gave me... its seems you made some assumption about which days were included in each report.

We will know tomorrow if your assumptions are correct when we check the johns hopkins data at worldinddata. It could be that the results in the reuters articles were 48 hours each... and therefore batched or that you are correct... and we will see 2 big days in a row on the hopkins data.

Once again let's go through the weekly reporting cycle for COVID information in Sweden including new registered deaths. Reports are released on the following four days:
  • Tuesday (data for the previous three days which consists of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday)
  • Wednesday (data for the previous 24 hours since Tuesday morning)
  • Thursday (data for the previous 24 hours since Wednesday morning)
  • Friday (data for the previous 24 hours since Thursday morning)
The sole exception to this COVID schedule is when Sweden has a national holiday and COVID data is not delivered on the national holiday.

You already know he will not understand this because he doesn't live there, never lived their or never has no vested interest in how anyone calculates their Covid-19 numbers outside of the United States.

still valid...

infections down
icu admits down

based on months of watching this...
Iits very likely deaths will be down... with ICU admits going down like this...

Recent Trends in Sweden continuing to look really good at the moment...
in terms of daily new infections and daily new ICU admits.

Let us hope the recent trends continue. ( I wonder if the propagandists here an in the media would prefer Sweden approach to be successful or not?)

(note to those concerned about deaths being backfilled to the date of death. )
That is a valid concern... but as I have been saying for a few weeks now... the recent days were showing fewer and fewer deaths. So we may have put in the highs overall the holidays.

And yet again the Prime Minister of Sweden steps forward and states their country's COVID response was a complete failure. How many times does he need to do this before "no-lockdown" nuts understand his point.

Swedish Prime Minister Admits Strategy to Stop Virus Fell Short

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said his government should have taken more aggressive steps and moved more quickly to stop the spread of the pandemic, and he takes full responsibility for the initial strategy that led the country to suffer a disproportionately high number of deaths.

In an interview with Dagens Nyheter, Lofven said the government’s response to the spread of the virus among the elderly was inadequate, and that testing should have begun earlier.

“As prime minister, I take full responsibility for the strategy that we have,” Lofven said.

Sweden began stepping up its response to the virus only recently, after deaths, particularly among older people, rose to per-capita levels that are more than three times those of its closest regional peer, Denmark. Even King Carl XVI Gustaf has called the nation’s response a failure, a rare rebuke of the government by a Swedish monarch.

In what many characterized as a too-little, too-late response, Sweden earlier this month enacted a new law that restricts private gatherings and allows for fines and shuttering of businesses that don’t follow restrictions such as caps on the number of visitors. Previously, authorities relied on voluntary compliance with general recommendations.

Lofven also tried to defend the government’s approach at the outset of the pandemic, arguing that no one really knew back then how the situation would develop. Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s top epidemiologist and the chief architect behind the country’s Covid strategy, proposed the light-touch approach from the get-go, based on an idea that the virus would be around for a long time and that recurring lockdowns weren’t a practical long-term solution.

Lofven told Dagens Nyheter that the government’s initial priority was to increase the amount of intensive care available. That shifted focus away from testing, including delaying the creation of the infrastructure needed to conduct extensive testing.

I think the Prime Minister of Sweden keeps repeating this fact is to prepare his citizens what will be done next and to ensure a law will be accepted for a lockdown.

By the way, the countries that have been outperforming Sweden each and every month...New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea...

They have not started a Covid-19 program either because they don't need to or countries that have been performing very well in their performance are last on the list to receive vaccines from the vaccine makers.

For example, South Korea is designated to receive a small supply of vaccines in February.

I will point out that New Zealand's politicians recently outlined that they are not in desperate haste to get vaccines since the country is doing so well. While New Zealand certainly wants to get its vaccine program moving -- the problem is not a crisis. This may be a good time to mention that New Zealand has committed to vaccinating neighboring nations at no cost.

Vaccinations ins New Zealand will start in the second quarter with the majority of vaccinations occurring in the second half of 2021. They have contracts with multiple vaccine makers for delivery of doses.
