In the Coronavirus Fight in Scandinavia, Sweden Stands Apart

Sweden reports a record 351 deaths since Wednesday

Sweden, whose unorthodox pandemic strategy placed it in the global spotlight, reported a record number of COVID-19 deaths for a single day on Thursday, taking the total toll above 10,000, although new infections appear to be easing.

The country of 10 million inhabitants registered 351 more deaths since Wednesday, statistics from the Public Health Agency showed, and reported 6,580 new coronavirus cases, with the daily number trending lower since late December.

Some 10,185 people have now died in Sweden from COVID-19 since the pandemic began, it said.

The latest number of deaths are likely to have occurred over several days and weeks, with many from the Christmas period being registered with a significant delay.

Public Health Agency official Karin Tegmark Wisell told a news conference that while the number of new cases showed some signs of having plateaued, the death toll would continue to mount.

“We sadly expect that the increase will continue given the high level of contagion in the country,” she said.

Authorities said that the situation was still strained in the healthcare system around the country with a few exceptions where there has been an improvement.

Around 20% of available intensive care beds are free, though the situation varies in different regions.

The death rate per capita in Sweden, which avoided harsh lockdowns, is several times higher than that of its Nordic neighbours but lower than several European countries that opted for lockdowns.

Jem, if your kids are suicidal stuck in the house, it's because you are in the house.

The rotten old toad does read the stuff he googles seconds before, the 2nd worst month since 2015... So not skyrocketing, just up a bit that month.

you lying moron...
This is using your preferred data...

It's the first time since the first wave the 7 day average of deaths has reached over 100.
(understanding Sweden has 10 million people.)

2. However, per the official data and per worldometer most of those deaths are from the last week of last year...

In terms of what is happening right now...
Sweden's trend is down infections and ICU admits.
Plus deaths from the last week are way day... Of course with the caveat... they may get filled in over the next week or two. However how watched the chart... these current numbers are so low... there is a good chance the peak is in for this wave..
We will see.

Are you spouting bullshiat again. Stop pushing your nonsense and fabricated assertions.
Once again the charts in Sweden always trend down in recent days for deaths, hospitalizations, and other COVID data since there is a delay in updating recent data. This is noted directly by the Swedish government on their website.

For example, let's take a look at hospital ICU admissions and capacity in Sweden currently. The trend is not down.

Once again let's go to the facts -- Sweden has abandoned its "herd immunity" strategy with the Prime Minister stating is was a complete failure. The country is instituting restrictions and lockdowns to deal with COVID. The era of "no lockdowns", "only lockdown the at-risk", "natural herd immunity" and the "Great Barrington Declaration" is over. All of these failed ideas which cost many lives have been buried in the dustbin of history.

No masks, no lockdowns, limited social distancing and government interference.
Sweden was right. They are the model.

Deaths in Sweden for 2020 reached a national record. And the counting is not even completed yet. Medical researchers expect the total will be over 100,000.

The Swedish Prime Minister has stated the COVID policy has completed failed. The government recently instituted federal level lockdowns and restrictions.
