"Don't bend, don't water it down;
Don't try to make it logical;
Don't edit your soul according to the fashion.
Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly."
- Franz Kafka

Moses conned the Israelites BUT for their own good. Did he really find the 10 Commandments written in stone on a mountain ? Of course not, he had them made and inspired the weary travellers to carry on a bit further to The Promised Land.
The problem of all the religions is that they are so old and dated. They can't evolve at all. And if someone tries to they are called heretics and persecuted.
The same is for revered Constitutions. Evolve boys as people get smarter even if it is only from trial and error.

Perhaps the worldwide governments should allow legally only authorised holy books that are printed with 'official comments' provided by committee of scholars.

These 'official comments' would be focused on only the controversial verses that could be unfairly/ wrongly/ irrationally interpreted, leading to extreme actions.

Therefore, moderate believers can rely on the 'official comments' added in authorised holy books to counteract extremists' interpretations.

Never too late!!! LOL

Hundreds of years ago God was a great way to thwart the King's ambition. There was something higher up than the King.The Church sometimes calluded with the King when it was in their interests but sometimes vehemently opposed the King, as in the case of St. Thomas Beckett The greatest sin one could accuse another was blasphemy, sodomy or worshipping the devil.
In times of war both sides invariably claimed the justice of their cause and God was on their side.

"And other spirits there are standing apart.
Upon the forehead of age to come;
These, these will give the world another heart,
And other pulses. Hear ye not the hum.
Of mighty workings in a distant mart?
Listen awhile, ye nations, and be dumb.

- John Keats
