Illegal does not describe their status because most entered legally and if they file the right paperwork they can continue to stay here legally.

My point was the word alien was really a stupid word to begin with in describing this group for legal purposes. Undocumented is a better word. Both describe a status that is in violation of the law but alien is meaningless. Undocumented accurately describes the situation. Illegal is too broad to identify the diffrence between people who entered illegally or entered legally.

If 75% or more are entering legally, then the issue is not all about a Wall and the southern border which gets all the attention and scare tactics from the GOP who then when in power did nothing about where the 75% of people are entering legally but simply overstaying and we never do anything about it.

The documentation system and follow up is where our system fails.

by the way the Supreme Court refers to them as undocumented immigrant so....

A person is not illegal, a substance can be illegal.

As a legal term I said the word alien was improper, undocument was a more correct word.

Then you start with we should call them illegal. That is not a legal status. Undocumented is the appropriate word under the law.
