In historic move, Asheville approves reparations for Black residents

Well to be fair it is not really reparations, it is a program to direct spending to programs and services that help the poor community within Asheville. No one is just handing individuals money but it is for:
increasing minority home ownership and access to other affordable housing, increasing minority business ownership and career opportunities, strategies to grow equity and generational wealth, closing the gaps in health care, education, employment and pay, neighborhood safety and fairness within criminal justice,
These are basic programs that a town council or city council should address in order to improve the lives of its citizens.
And they wll still fail because they're weak minded as a result of 50 fucking years of being told they're weak minded.
It's 1966, damn near anywhere USA. This was the attitude towards blacks.
Schools- we don't want you here.
Employers- we don't want you here
Restaurants and businesses- we don't want you here
Neighborhoods- we don't want you here
On and on damn near every door slammed in their face and yet those people of that era managed to overcome real racism, real discrimination, real bigotry, real injustices. How? Because that had parents at home telling them they could, that's how. Fathers telling sons, great grandfather was a god damn slave kid, suck it the fuck up. They persevered.
Today every door open, every opportunity available, all the help in the world and they just can't make it, poor things. It's bullshit and everyone knows it and I fucking know it because I was there in 1966 watching it happen. Spin it however you like, but the facts don't change.

Agree. The fundamental problem is not lack of opportunity. 56%+ of Nigerian-Americans hold a graduate degree in the US.
If these programs result in raising the poor out of poverty and more minority run businesses, safer streets, better schooling and a more holistic and healthy way of life than I am ALL FOR IT. It pays for itself easily, and I would happily be taxed for it.

There isn't a living soul in the United States who has owned slaves.
The idea that people would be made to pay for something that they had no part of is fundamentally un-American. I have to agree with those who say it would never happen, at least directly. Indirectly I think reparations are already under way.
Honestly, if said programs are to help the poor get out of poverty, I don't care if you call it "reparations" of "get your free shit" to make stupid people feel better as long as it is effective in eliminating or highly reducing poverty. The cost in the long run is far worth it.
Its like that old fight between "marriage" is only between a man and woman but "civil union" is OK with me argument. I don't give a shit. If someone wants to be with a man, woman, carrot or aardvark, let em. I don't care about the nomenclature.
This is exactly how you grow government and dependency on government. Create a program which will of course need bureaucracy and more government workers. Plenty of corruption to follow as the money will pass through several hands. Right out of the leftist playbook to make people as weak as possible.
