Republican senators can follow their conscience. But their arms are twisted to go for Trump's acquittal
There are certainly Republicans who genuinely believe that Donald Trump deserves to be acquitted on his impeachment trial.
But for many others there is also self-interest. The pressure not to lose Trump is starting to look like a real witch hunt. And if the Senate vote were secret, Trump might not stand a chance.
It is all about money and fat salaries. More important for Republicans than human lives and fighting criminal behavior. So pure corruption instead of protecting Americans. The US starts to look more and more like Russia. A small group of politicians try to take as much money as they can and don't care about average joe.
Do you notice how markets go higher and make new ATH's? Clearly no achivement from Trump as he is gone, and the hoax that Democrats would kill the markets seems also not true.

Trump only made some vague statement about “remain peaceful” after the rioters he had incited already had stormed the Capital building.
Impeachment had three goals. 2 of the 3 have been achieved...personally...very satisfied to see such a pathetic person placed firmly into the ugliness of American history...
Within about 5 years, his ugliness will begin to be mention in history books along with that of Adolf Hitler because there's so much similarities.
#1 - Gain 17 Republicans for conviction (not likely)
#2 - Educate the American public and the world about the evil flaws about Donald Trump (accomplished)
#3 - Take away his platforms to spread his bullshit rhetoric (accomplished)
The criminal cases on the state level after the Impeachment is what will get Donal Trump. In my opinion, the state level criminal cases that awaits him will do more damage although one can easily think how far can this idiot fall.

That's 30 percent of the Republican caucus in the Senate, or nearly one-third of the GOP members.

It is mentioned clearly: AFTER the Capitol was stormed. Not BEFORE.
So Trump said AFTER the crime was done, don't do it. Telling what to do AFTER the crime is committed is no proof at all that he was peaceful.
