If Mitch was backing a conviction, he would have called The Senate back into session before the 19th.
Not if his goal is to prevent Trump from running in 2024, if he's not behind bars.
He doesn't care about the optics of getting it done immediately--that's the type of stuff the Dems care about.
He just wants it done. Why cut short their vacation to do it? It can wait until they get back in session. No rush. 2024 is a ways off.
