The Dover artwork is across the Channel from Calais, where a Banksy mural appeared at the main refugee camp in 2015, showing the Apple founder, Steve Jobs, whose biological father was a Syrian immigrant.

In January, a Banksy mural depicting the Apple founder Steve Jobs, whose biological father was a Syrian immigrant, appeared on the wall of a tunnel in the refugee camp in Calais. In a short statement accompanying the work, Banksy emphasised that Apple, one of the most profitable companies in the world, only existed because “they allowed in a young man from Homs”.

Background
Parents

Steve Jobs's biological father, Abdulfattah "John" Jandali (Arabic: عبد الفتاح الجندلي) (b. 1931), was born into an Arab Muslim household and grew up in Homs, Syria.[10] Jandali is the son of a self-made millionaire who did not go to college and a mother who was a traditional housewife.[10] While an undergraduate at the American University of Beirut, he was a student activist and spent time in jail for his political activities.[10] Although Jandali initially wanted to study law, he eventually decided to study economics and political science.[10] He pursued a PhD in the latter subject at the University of Wisconsin, where he met Joanne Carole Schieble, a Catholic of Swiss and German descent, who grew up on a farm in Wisconsin.[11][10][12] As a doctoral candidate, Jandali was a teaching assistant for a course Schieble was taking, although both were the same age.[13] Mona Simpson (Jobs's biological sister), notes that her maternal grandparents were not happy that their daughter was dating Jandali: "it wasn't that he was Middle-Eastern so much as that he was a Muslim. But there are a lot of Arabs in Michigan and Wisconsin. So it's not that unusual."[13] Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs's official biographer, additionally states that Schieble's father "threatened to cut Joanne off completely" if she continued the relationship.[11]

Since 2014 the scheme has helped keep the population growing, from 390 to 394 people, despite a loss of 54 people. During its heyday in the 1950s, the village had more than a thousand residents.

A third of Italy's villages are at risk of depopulation and even extinction, the report by Legambiente, a national environmental association, found in 2016.

Among the innovative means to try to attract fresh blood, Italian dwindling villages have been selling off empty houses for negligible sums and asking migrants and refugees to regenerate aging centres.

France arrests six over stolen Banksy artwork: source

PARIS (Reuters) - Six people have been arrested in France over the theft of an artwork by the British street artist Banksy that was stolen from the Bataclan concert hall in Paris, a judicial source said on Saturday.

The mural, which shows a veiled female figure staring mournfully downwards, was found at a farmhouse in central Italy earlier this month, nearly a one-and-a-half years after it was removed.

Two of those arrested are under formal investigation on suspicion of theft. The other four are suspected of concealing theft, the source said.

It is thought the thieves used portable grinders to remove the fire-exit door on which the mural was painted before carrying it off in a van, Italian media reported when the artwork was discovered.
