Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge

I can understand why the democrats support this. Their biggest contributors come from the movie and music industries, and they will do whatever necessary to allow those groups to continue to rip us off. Plus, they would leap at the chance to shut down the alternative media, like Drudge. Also, big media wants to have enforceable paywalls for all its content.

But why would republicans support it? The alternative media have been the biggest weapon republicans have had. This is the first nail in the coffin, then reintroduction of some version of the "fariness doctrine" is the other. They could just call it the "silence Rush" doctrine, so no one is confused.

Like pot legalization, this is one of those once in a generation opportunities for republicans to change their "branding" with young voters. Of course, they will blow it, like they do so many other opportunities.

I think Obama and his Community Reinvestment Act (of 1977) are behind all this.

I'm waiting to hear Obama say he will veto it.

chirp...chirp...

The money the music and film industry use to buy him means a lot more to him than your freedom.

Reading just about any post by the OP makes it easy to imagine a world without any knowledge. The guy can barely form complete sentences.

Funny I thought much the same as soon as I saw the thread title.

Now...I'm trying to imagine this web site without tradingurinals.

Of course the left/right arguments have to be made, or else there would be little discussion here.

IMO, much like what happened from Napster to iTunes, moving from from piracy, sort of, to a money maker. I personally think that the web has enough ways to validate enough profitability in place already. I donated to Wikipedia, hopefully many others have as well. I hope it stays a free market tool, not in the hands of right or left, Obama, or Obama haters.

I think the move by Wiki to black out was a good thing to do. Unfortunately, it wasn't all that well executed. If a user simply lets the page load and then hits the stop button before the "Imagine.." message pops up, then all the content is still there.

They should have really blacked it out, and for a couple days.

So lets start a government agency to deal with it .I though you were one of those small government guys who wanted the government out of our lives

Maybe the Pres. can send some of those proposed laid off commerce agency peeps to work in it.
