I'm tired of IRS paperwork every year -- We Need a Change Now!

"Change?"... that's what the DemoCraps are saying every other word.
How about this idea. First, remember the Romans found the vast military expense to "protect and keep the empire in line" was a TREMENDOUS strain on the treasury... contributed greatly to their downfall as a civilization.
How about:
1. Withdrawing ALL foreign troops. We don't need strategic allies like we once did, you know. We've got nuclear weapons to defend the USA if necessary... and nobody with any brains is going to attack The Big Dog. (Remember, prior or WWI and even into WWII, America tried to be Isolationist and not get involved in the squabbles in the rest of the world... maybe a good idea for today? Certainly would be good for our budget... after all, not only are we "involved", but we're paying for it all.)
2. Have the troops we brought home REALLY guard our borders, if thought necessary.
3. Eliminate foreign aid. We're spending money like it grows on trees... even BORROWING in order to GIVE foreign aid and harming ourselves financially in the process... How ridiculous is that?
4. Require the Gummint adhere to a balanced budget.
That would be enough "change" to get things back on the right track.

This thread is exactly indicative of what is wrong with and how torn apart this country is today. This same chatter is seen throughout the country. We've reached a stage where we can't reach a reasonable consensus on anything. How much longer can the country last?

No, not really.
If the next president carries a mandate from the people that they want to see the fair tax implemented then this would give that president the tools to pressure congress into submission.

The United States of America is actually a Republic, not a Democracy.
A democracy is when people vote on every bill.
A republic is when people have representatives voting on every bill.
A big difference.

Your definition of "Democracy" is more restrictive than commonly used... and I'm not sure it's even technically correct.
By convention, the terms Democracy and Republic are used interchangeably when referring to the USA, with democracy the most common by far.
That America is the "longest surviving" gives me neither pride nor comfort at this time.
Had we not become "Gummint at the EXPENSE of the people", would have lasted a lot longer...
