I'm tired of being told that...

Quote from Scataphagos:

Let me offer 2 thoughts...

1. It wasn't the "Boomers who plundered..." I never heard a Boomer ask the government for something with the condition that it be charged to his kids and grand kids. Fault here lies with the politicians.

2. [We] Boomers are not going to make out so well on this deal either. We'll be OWED a lot (based upon the notion that "we paid into SS and Medicare just like the generation before us, and we're entitled to what they got"), but we won't be collecting like we expect. We're going to get hosed BIG TIME as well.

As for the next generation(s), best thing they can do is learn to speak Chinese and move waaayyyy West.

All of that COULD change, however, if we can find our collective cojones and drum both the Republicans and Democrats out of town at the next election...

I once had a discussion with a white 50 something. The type that complains about blacks and welfare. He also said that he used to make a lot of money selling to the defense industry in the eighties. You know - 600 dollar toilet seats, 200 dollar screwdrivers. He made a lot of money.

So how much were the black welfare recipients making in the eighties? Was the 50 year old white guy any different? Oh wait, he wore a tie and went to work. I get it. That's not welfare is it?

I agree about a third party Scat. As for moving out west. Forget it. The land from California to Texas will be getting carved up between the Mexican illegals and the invading Chinese Army trying to cash in their US Treasuries.

Marc Faber moved to Hong Kong, Jim Rogers moved to Singapore. Those cats know what's going down.

What's next? Calling drug dealers, Undocumented Pharmacists"?

:D

frankly, I 90% support the OP, and 10% support Misthos. The content went right over his head.

Quote from Misthos:

The age gap between my parents is pretty wide. Though I am a gen Xer - my father was born in 1931. My mother is a baby boomer. But the stories I hear from my father are different. He was a kid in a European village growing up. He nearly was shot by a German fighter once. Two of his cousins were blown to bits by a German grenade they found. He would herd sheep when he was 10 yrs old, by himself, at night, amongst dead bodies in the countryside.

He rarely drinks, doesn't smoke, doesn't gamble, and barely ever complains. He has seen a plutocracy manipulate the masses. His fear is that is what is happening to America right now.

Most people don't realize what is going on and there is a lot of misdirected rage, that I fear, will get out of control.

Your father's fears are well-founded, be thankful you still have him.

The OP article brings up a lot of points, and I agree with a lot of what he said as well. I'm just showing that everyone is fucked up to a degree, incuding the OP.

Quote from Misthos:

Listen you old crotchety kook:

Most of the money you made was during one of history's greatest credit bubbles.

You benefitted from the massive government deficit spending that began from LBJ to today. If you are 63 years old - that means you were about 23 back then and had just started making decent money.

What would have the American Economy looked like if the Great Society, Vietnam, Reagan's Deficits, CLinton's capture of Social Security, and BushII's and Obamas doubling of the deficit look like today?

What if all that money was never created starting with LBJ? How big would our economy have been all those years you worked?

You know what you old whiny bastard? You would be living in a frickin mud hut - that's what.

So yeah, that money was never yours and we'll be taking it back from you. And hopefully Obama's death panel will vote thumbs down so we don't pay for your SS or Medicare.

Yours Truly,

- A Generation Xer that sure as hell will not be stuck w/ the baby boomer's tab.
+1

Finally, someone who "gets it".

By "waaayyy West", I meant across the Pacific.

If I were young enough and single, that's what I'd do... especially if I had little in the way of assets... so the US Government couldn't hose me before I left.

BTW... I don't believe your generation and the next are going to be saddled with the entitlements of the Boomers.... could be as bad or worse for you though... The system will blow up before long and we'll all be bankrupt.... except the politicos, of course.

millions of government/union workers are retiring soon .. with the expectation of nearly their full income and benefits for the rest of their lives ...

I haven't listened to Rush in years, but he has been slamming the greed of boomers for years.

Can't see the greed issue myself... unless we're talking about someone who works his career to get two government pensions.. that's doesn't seem right.

The greed of the government and government employee benefits seem as big a problem as any.

That same conclusion was reached 2,500 years ago in Athens. Their experiments in Democracy were always temporary.
