Illinois set to pass Forced Confiscation of All Semiautos

Quote from achilles28:

Sorry. Wait a second. Two posts ago you asked me what freedoms are in decline? And your very next post, you admit warrant-less spying and rendition are going strong.

You're not right in the head. I get it.

Both of which promote, protect and continue to ensure your freedom.

Your welcome.

That's the beauty of this country. It can provide so much to someone like you - who isn't even capable of understanding all that you have right in front of you or how it came to be.

When Obama renews and increases the programs, there is silence.

Pretty sure he promised the opposite when he ran 2008, or am I mistaken? It's the silence from the left that is troubling regarding this issue.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying.

What personal freedoms are in decline?
Really?

Have you even been to an airport in the last 20 years?

Have you heard of the Patriot Act?

Are you a gun owner?

Have you noticed passports are needed to visit neighboring countries now? Especially if you expect to be able to return to the U.S.

Have you heard that Obama now has the right to kill Americans without due process?

Need I continue?

If they are going to publish the names and addresses of registered gun owners then I suspect many people will not continue to register their firearms. It is very easy to simply purchase firearms from private parties for cash leaving no paper trail.

Once they started violating the privacy of gun owners they made the decision for a lot of people.

Quote from Magna:

Precisely. The only folks who think 10 rounds is "enough" are the philosophers who have usually never fired a gun and certainly never been in a confrontational situation (like Senators and NYC Mayors who are surrounded by armed guards). They think of standing at the range, feet planted, the target is still, and you calmly aim at the bullseye. 10 rounds should be plenty, what's the big deal?

In the real world here is how it may go down. Your assailant is not standing still waiting for you to shoot him, he's moving around, often hiding behind solid objects. And you're not standing still, either tracking him or trying to get away from him. It's dark and you can barely see since over 80% of bad-guy activity happens at nighttime. Your adrenaline is pumping, your heart is pounding, your hands are sweating and probably shaking because this is for real, not some philosophical discussion. Oh, and a couple other things... no calm bullseye practice because this target is shooting back (!) so you are constantly moving and ducking for cover. And bad guys often travel with their buddies so there could easily be 2 or 3 of them.

NYC does an annual follow-up survey of all gun activity by their police force. They found that these highly trained individuals who graduated their Policy Academy and are required to practice and qualify with their firearms at regular intervals completely missed their human targets over 70% of the time. Hmmm, so that leaves you with only 3 out of the 10 rounds. Or to put it another way — NO ONE was ever in a gunfight and wished they had fewer rounds.

The odds of situation you described are quite small. Vast majority of criminals will flee at first sign of danger, they are there for the money and are not ready being shot. Plus, in the situation you described a hand gun would be more effective.

It is quite obvious that in a gun fight everyone wishes for more bullets.

We as society need to find a right balance between freedom and safety.

Quite frankly that's a decision that should be made on a personal level not one imposed by a govt entity.

The man who tries to insure himself against all possible losses, will not only find himself destitute , it would only take a black spotted duckling to do him in.

At the heart of collectivism is a philosophy of greed and it's unstated reason is to provide safety from all things to all people.

Truth be told Red you're arguing with the wrong crowd. It's the anti 2nd amendment guys futurecurrents and Ishopatpublix that want to ban your 9mm.
If I were you I'd be more worried about them and their ilk than us.

YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

After getting nowhere in the Senate, the gun controllers have taken their campaign to destroy your rights to the Illinois House. Earlier today, Amendment #1 to SB2899 was introduced in the Illinois House of Representatives. Sponsored by rabidly anti-gun Rep. Eddie Acevedo, the amendment would do two things to you:

1. It would pick your pocket to pay for the confiscation and destruction of your own guns.

2. It would ban more than 50% of the rifles and more than 80% of handguns owned by Illinois citizens.

THIS BILL WILL BE VOTED ON BY THE HOUSE JUDICIARY 1 COMMITTEE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON – YOU MUST ACT NOW!

To help save your guns, please contact the following Representatives and politely tell them that you are a law-abiding firearm owner and that you do not support SB2899 and that you expect them to vote the amendment down.

I see your point, and anyone who opposes 2nd amendment, can just gnash their teeth as it is not going away ever.

The more I think about the issue, the more I realize that the ban of semi automatic rifles will not work at all, as not all of them will be prohibited.

The best odds then are mandatory back ground checks for every purchase, and some limits on household with felons and mentally ill.
