Illinois Becomes First State to Eliminate Cash Bail

Tougher gun laws won't do shit. People committing the crimes have illegal firearms and don't care what laws you put in place regarding firearm possession, as it isn't going to be worse than the crime for murder.

Is it surprising to see more crime with catch and release law enforcement?

You would think at least the local DA would require cash bail for people arrested for committing crimes with a gun -- but in Durham they don't even do this. So I guess guns are not really an important point when it comes to crime.

Better yet, lets get the guns out of their hands in the first place.Only obstacle?Republicans.

The rise in crime in Durham is directly correlated with the elimination of cash bail in June of 2019. Crime quicky started rising.

At the end of 2019 they hoped that things would improve.... it only got way worse in 2020.

With the progressive city council refusing to fund more police most of the shootings go unsolved...

89 percent of shootings in Durham in 2020 are unsolved, police say

Even as the community works to stop violence in Durham - it only gets worse. The "violence interrupters" and "community outreach" programs do not appear to help at all -- but they are getting the funding that should go to the police.

Note: Despite the minster's efforts December 2020 turned out to be the bloodiest month in Durham's history (until that time).
rise in crime is directly correlated w/relative poverty, we have data for that, and 2020 only exacerbated that wealth gap. I'd be happy to review your studies showing how ditching the bail system directly correlates to a rise in crime though.

Not that it matters, we don't restrict hate speech even if it increases the likelihood of hate crimes.

So what's your explanation for the startling rise in Durham in the second half of 2019 -- did everyone suddenly get poor.

2 of your articles were from 2020. What's your explanation for lower crime rates in pretty much every developed country w/o a cash bail system?

The articles were from 2020 to show the timeline from 2019 after cash bail was implemented in June of 2020. This should be obvious.

not if you didn't read them. In any case, the cash bail system is archaic, unconstitutional and thankfully is being done away with.

The reason I provided the dates under the headlines of the articles was to demonstrate the progression of increasing crime in Durham.... it should be obvious even if you did not read the articles.
