If you were to build your dream trading computer

Curious, does anyone here make the trading computer dedicated or do you use it to surf or run other application while you are staring at charts?

I'm building a new system but wondering if I should use a 2nd smalller system just for web searching and program usage.

Didn't know if that would help the speed of the trading software/java

Yes to your question. I have a computer which is solely dedicated to trading. In my opinion this is the only way to go. Much fewer worries that way.

Use VMware & Sandboxie to keep it clean, safe and fast... You really don't need huge machine, any dual core laptop plugged with 24' monitor (1920 x 1080 or better) should do the trick. Get two such setup for more screen... I keep my TWS on Laptop's 13' and charts on external 24' screen.

My Dream PC would be a Cray CX1.

Lots of multitasking with this bad boy.

But serious for most of us I would go with my recent purchase. Dell Precision T3400. Just got one with two 22" monitors with a Quad core 9550 for about $1,600. Very fast machine and reliable.

I have a Cray. Very fast and can handle as much multitasking as you care to throw at it.
