I would go with AMD for both. Since you don't seem to use CUDA, AMD cards use less power and perform better for the money.

Your uses are not CPU intensive so its doesn't matter, however if you want a high end gaming box you want nVidia especially if the games you play benefit from Ray Tracing. nVidia's implementation of Ray Tracing is far superior than AMD's.

The best card in terms value & performance is the RTX 3070 -- $300 used in the US anyway. Also if you are using programs that don't make use of multiple cores then the 13th generation Intel Core i7 13700K is the fastest for single core performance (under $600).

If you want to build a PC based on the new Intel & AMD platforms (LGA1700 & AM5) it will be a lot more expensive since the motherboards & the DDR5 SDRAM just came out, especially the AM5 motherboards which are very expensive right now -- at least $250-300. You could save $200-$300 just buying the older AM4 boards and DDR4 SDRAM. The top AM4 Ryzen 5950X is only $400-$500 here in the US.

You could consider two boxes.
You can pick up a fine rock solid trading box for peanuts dropped off at your door next week. See Scatman in hardware, he can have you spec'd out in no time.

As for the gaming box, what's your budget, Soy?

I think a good rule of thumb you have already conquered. Since you know what you want your main function of the machine to be, which is gaming, makes your path clear.

You want a powerhouse gaming machine. So just spec out your gaming machine to be the best it can be at gaming, and don't worry about the office fluff. It will be just fine for that office work.

As opposed to days in the past where you wanted to spec a machine for office and gaming on same level...

With the level these gaming/graphic card have reached? Don't worry about it.

A top-end gaming machine will run both great. A top-end business machine will run only office proggies great, but games not so much. Choose the former.

Thank you nitrene! I definitely don't want no brokey Ray Tracing, in case that comes big, so NVIDIA it is for me. Will check out RTX 3070, that sounds like about the right price (a little on high side).

But close to $600 for a CPU? Aren't the heavy apps these days all basically GPU limited, not really CPU limited? I.E. can't even some of the cheaper CPUs run CPU heavy apps very, very fast? Plus trading stuff I don't think is a heavy usage all. Not like compiling software or something. I was hoping in the $100 - $200 for a CPU.

Wow Phil, looking at your charts, the one thing that struck me most was the CPU one, with apparently Ryzen having just one entry at the very bottom of the chart. Are those supposed to be the fastest CPUs available? I was under the impression from reading all the hype that Ryzen was wiping the floor with Intel, not so much based on that chart LOL.

Yea, easymon suggested 2 different boxes, but my lines of thinking was along yours Overnight - a decent gaming box will more than handle any trading type of apps.
