If you want to know about fish...

A college professor reportedly tore up the assignment papers he'd received from his students when he'd asked them to write up something on the subject of fish.

The reason he did that was because all of the papers he'd received came from doing library research on fish.

Thus, he announced before the class that, "if you want to know about fish, go look at fish [not read about fish in books]."

And so, by corollary, if you want to know about the stock market, go look at the stock market. Don't be trying to get your hands on every book can find on stocks.

Or, as Indiana Jones in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)" once said, "if you want to become a good archaeologist, you have to get out of the library more often."
 
Two points are missing on the fish. One is the psychology of the fish to the pond and the psychology of your reaction to the fish in the pond. Are you going to catch the fish or just ponder the fish existence and not consider the fish is preyed upon or itself a predator. Is any of this fair? Not likely.

At any rate, I subscribe to the theory the market will teach you everything you need to know, but beyond the flashing of the green and red lights and the numbers is ones own insight, what type of fish am I?

Observation, imo is the best begining but you sure can't learn to swim by watching a fish.
