If you never went to college, what's the best job to have now?

Most skilled sales positions, like my former telecommunications equipment sales, require a degree. Sales is very general term. Selling watches at the counter at Wallmart ok.

Welding could be good agreed. Electrician too. Try and find a trade where you can get the schooling a reasonable cost or be an apprentice for a couple of years. A trading buddy of mine is a retired elevator service repair technician. Also survey the landscape and estimate how many illegals have taken over the general field. Not discriminatory, no joke. Drive to a construction site and they even do drywall now.

P.S. Stay away from ITT technical inst. They promise the world and deliver mostly $12 an hour jobs. You can Google the article done about them recently.

You need a 4 year degree to be an RN actually, she will get a lower paying LPN job with a two year degree.

No, you don't. It's a two year program (AS to RN) at most community colleges. You do, however, need to be an RN to get accepted to a BSN program as a transfer student from a 2-year college.

Depends on the state. Here in MD you can be an RN with a 2 year degree but that will change in the future.

The BSN (an RN with a 4 year degree) pays more and has more upward mobility.

Where did you hear there is a shortage? I heard you can't trust BLS statistics; maybe there is a more trustworthy website somewhere which lists which careers have genuine shortages?
 
Do something you love, don't do things for the money, But if its something you love, make sure you be the best at it, mediocre doesn't cut it in life. Life is long, don't work for money just for money , unless you love it, like me. Working for a paycheck at a job you have no interest in is equivalent to modern slavery.
