This was fucking hilarious, sorry to say but if your dumb enough to get led down this rabbit hole you deserve it, i just watched the show and frankly i thought the whole thing ws funny, ive always liked sacha Cohen even though hes usually attacking conservatives from a liberal angle, i still find it hilarious. Borat was awesome, cause it not only hit conservatives, but it hit liberals, proving how far people would go to accept a foreigner with horrendous values just because they dont want to judge them.
Judging by the ratings, nobody saw it
You should have seen his early UK shows when they came out, nobody saw him coming. I remember thinking no way, he can't STILL be catching people out. It was a couple of seasons before he needed prosthetic disguises. Much of it took the piss out of people who should know better. Noam Chomsky was a classic.
Unlike the US (actually I think ONLY the US is like this to a noticeable degree in English speaking nations) there is no left/right comedy genre to speak of so nothing down those roads back then.
He has an amazing capacity to keep a straight face and pivot on ammo being handed to him by whomever he is talking to. He managed to do Ali G for a couple of years before it was too well publicized it was comedy.
