If you could live anywhere

Quote from Renegen:

Hawaii has the most expensive gas in the US.

New Zealand, I didn't think of that..
I'd pick somewhere safe, civilized, great weather and also possibly quiet. Sometimes you want a big city, sometimes a nice tranquil island. I'm thinking Italy except it's probably not as good as I imagine it.

That is true, gas is rather pricey there, but driving distances are manageable and the vistas..... Worth the price. It is also a big tourist destination so you will always see happy people who are there to have a great time. I spent two months in Hawaii on vacation and visited all the major island.... one of the best vacations ever. Also, if you like to travel, Hawaii is in the middle of the ocean so going to Japan, China, Korea, South Pacific, NZ, Australia is much more manageable and much cheaper than from mainland USA. If it was not for my wife's very nice salary, I would already be living there.

Quote from Tarantel:

Check out Estonia. I live here, weather sucks (though better than GB) but taxes are quite low. Living is comparatively cheap (although buying real estate isn't), culture is European-like. Nothing dangerous living in the wilderness.

Very nice place, cultured and plesant. There is a ferry to Helsinki (takes 1.5 hours). Aslo there is a flat tax which is not that high, I think is 10%. The only problem - winter, no wonder Germans got their buttocks kicked.

On food alone I would live in Italy for sure.... Italian food in US is so underwhelming compared to there..

Scenery it would have to be a Carribbean or Pacific Ocean island/waterfront locale.

Women.... some place with the best Latin/Asian women wherever that could be and have the scenery and food. Japan is up there...

Cost of Living... hoepfully I by the time I can do this I am such a big trader I can afford to live anywhere lol...

Ahhh I still have not found a place with all 4 :D

Quote from SiSePuede!:

I liked Panama...my main complaint about both Panama and Costa Rica is that there is a big lack of gorgeous Caribbean beaches. Panama has them in the Comarca De Kuna Yala but that's not the same as driving to the coast in Italy...:D

I really truly think Costa Rica is a huge shithole and I've been to some big shitholes. The people have no real culture, the food is bland, the beaches are nothing special, the roads are pure shit, etc. There's just nothing redeeming about Costa Rica other than the fact that it's not at war. It's sort of pretty, but nothing special that I saw that other places don't have.

And when I mentioned Hawaii before, I might have been misunderstood as I think the Big Island is one of the most beautiful places in the world and there are loads of things to do there.

Panama could be very livable for sure...I just would rather live in Europe...but I'd happily live in Panama....a lot of really beautiful things in a small country. I almost bought a house on Isla Contadora a bit over a year ago. :D

Ah, that's because you haven't been to Thailand....

Food is outrageously good and healthy.

Scenery...no comments here...spectacular beaches, mountains, waterfalls.

Women...those tiny little things...they look like dolls.

Cost of living...you pay your food with change...everything is dirt cheap.

Not to mention, excellent infrastructure and friendly people...

Here are some pics...
