I do not know when Saxon22 was last here but since I arrived four years ago, Panama has changed, people are more wealthy, progress is been made in all areas. Tourism is doubling every year, they are building new hotels to cope with the influx. Somebody likes it here.

IMO the two lat am countries with the best chances of breaking with the past and forming a good future are Panamà and Uruguay, but I think that Panamà has the better prospects.
 
Aitutaki in the Cook Islands

The Cook Islands are unbelievable in that they dont have anything in the water that can hurt you. No sharks, rays, jellyfish, blue bottles etc... On land, no snakes, crocs or stinging spiders or bees/wasps.

The water is crystal blue the sand it powder white. Great water sports etc..

Very friendly people who speak English and are laid back. Much better than Tahiti.

Plus you would be a citizen of NZ which means you can drop down to the south island if you want to go skiing or anything else down there.

Better get there fast people are starting to figure it out.

Have you been to a lot of those islands? Going to take off from actively trading all next year(well, I'll be invested but not trading) to travel and planning on starting with 1-2 months of island hopping in the S. Pacific and diving.

Any recommendations? We're definitely doing Cook Is., Aus/GBR, Phillipines, Fiji, maybe Easter Island, and who knows where else. Our destinations are in no way mapped yet so I have to sit down with a guide to figure out where the best diving is to be found.

I was in Tahiti and the Cooks last year and Aus and NZ a few years ago.

Personally my perfect vacation would be being active in NZ and then relaxing in the Cooks before heading back to the US.

But if diving is your main priority, you have to check out the GBR. Byron Bay is cool to dive. I have not been to, but have been told that, Tasmania is great.

Thanks, if NZ weren't so far from the rest of the world I'd be living there now. It's also a bit cut off culturally...but Kiwis are some of my favorite people I've met traveling. I spent a few months in NZ and loved everything about it...didn't dislike a second of my trip.

Diving is part...S. Pacific is so good for diving so it is...but we'll spend a few months in China, a few in India, and a few months in Thai/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam, and Burma. Diving in Thailand is supposedly great as well. I'm not so experienced but will be doing some diving in the Cayman's in Mexico in the next few months before going.
