Sounds awesome how would an aussie be able to spend say 3 months there?

You can add Seattle to that list of most livable.
Plus in Washington state, no State Income tax.
Highest educated population in the US.
Beats Vancouver, BC hands down in my opinion. unless you can't afford Health Incsurance, the only downside to living the USA. Then again you get what you pay for. The quality of US Health care is heads and shoulders above Canada (I have lived 40 years in Canada 11 in USA)

IAnd for the record I spent about a year living in Portland, OR which I find to be a sort of mini-Vancouver and I'd say that's one of the best cities in N. America as it's a rather stress-free, healthy, friendly, happening place to live.

Seattle has hippies which you can abuse and beat up.....half of them are homeless so its fun harassing them...right????
Plus, they have a lot of coffee and weed there thus the weather (raining constantly) does not matter.
PS.....I was going to drink with my buddies yesterday in NYC....and I seen bunch of hippies in front of a Vietnamese restaurant....let me tell you its good times abusing them..if you want to join in I am passing a sign up sheet to abuse hippies.
