Without doubt a large segment of the world hates the U.S.
For two reasons. Neither of which is Iraq.
Most of us publicly suppress our true reasons for disliking someone. It's better for one's self esteem to say "I hate that guy because he's a smug prick" rather than you can't really stand that he's a rich good looking guy who attracts all the hot babes. it's an ego-defense thing. Thus many people, particularly in SA, hate us because of our economic dominance. The Chavez's of the region can blather on all they want about the "imperialistic" U.S. but it's him not us with 70% living in poverty.
The NEW hatred for the U.S. comes mainly from Europe and the Middle East. This is where dopes like doodoo prove their shallowness. Does he think some guy in Lyon or Leeds hates the arrogant U.S. because we captured pitiful Saddam while Baghdad lies burning? No way. Those Euro-trash could give a flying fuck. They hate the U.S. because the U.S. does Israel's bidding. If the U.S. denounced Israel to-morrow you'd see the global coalition of anti-semites, Islamo-fascists, European intelligentsia and Latin American socialists en masse saluting America for falling on the side of human rights.
I've no idea what little 'ole Israel has done that incites so much wrath. But no doodoo it's not about Iraq specifically. It's about our footprint in the region vis a vis Israel. And while no one wants to openly discuss their jealousy toward another human being, even governments and societies would rather mask their anti-semitism with a red herring.

If you paid a little attention you would have noticed that I did not debate or support the validity of anti-american hatred. But the fact that the hatred exists is undeniable and you actually seem to agree that it is indeed wide-spread. The author of the article claiming that this country has a reputation of a defender of freedom to uphold lives in a parallel universe.
