If they legitimately beat Trump in 2020, why do they want to prevent him from running in 2024?

Really simple to answer. He can't run because by 2024 he will be a convicted felon and will be eating porridge in supermax. So, nobody is worried about hindering him from running ever again. People are way too busy with first impeaching him and then jailing him.

even if it would legally be possible for him, he would first have to found his own party.

The DemoCraps see Trump as a stain on their Leftism. If they can, they will erase Trump from history.
The Dems are not worried about future elections. Even if Republicans were to mount a serious threat, the Dems have got the "cheat machine" down pat to take care of it... and the Lefty Governors, DOJ, FBI, and courts are in league with them. No "outsider" (meaning no no-Lefty) will ever be president again.
That will effectively make America a "one party" country.... though I'm sure they'll keep up the appearance of our having two parties for a while to keep the hoi polloi from getting wise too soon.
So... what do you call a "one party" government system?
Can you think of examples? Say... China, Russia, N. Korea, Cuba to name a few...

I am actually convinced "they" really don't get it. They are so naive, the way they talk sounds like they are under the impression we are all playing in a sandbox without any serious consequences. And now they focus all their blame on two social media companies. Like Johnny, who stole items from the supermarket and was caught and now blames the bus driver who dropped Johnny off at the nearest bus stop from the supermarket.
Considering that 90 percent of the media was fanning the base for 4 years over mostly bullshit...its hard to say Trump was responsible for most of it.
He was crude. He made sort of a racist comment about a judge 5 years ago but gained hispanic votes in some states.
The civil war was created by your team to a very significant degree. It was the same hatred your team threw at Reagan, and Bush and the Tea Party but on steroids. Your party was enlarged by hate.
So don't blame Trump for all it. Trump was not great... but he was not really that much different from how most Rs would have ruled. And he was anti war. A lefty position... until Trump took it. Don't think I am a Trump fan. He did not deliver on most of his promises and he and Ryan and McConnel screwed me on taxes.
