exactly... people are morons, so of course can't expect morons to react rationally.... hence the cooler heads need to educate them!

I've been thinking the same thing. I think the level of fear we've seen thus far has been somewhat irrational. But maybe expecting the masses to react rationally to a global pandemic is irrational in and of itself.

Throughout history and the market, mass hysteria tended to happen often, without good reasons. Even animals stamped for no good reasons.

As traders, we find ways to exploit/benefit from mass hysteria, why try to convert the masses? We are not preacher converting sinners so they can go to trading heaven.

Traders are like gamblers, if we are right, we count our money after the deal (trade) is done and count them quietly behind close door. If we are wrong, admit it and move on to the next trade.

Dozu - while you are probably right on the serious of the virus for most people, think you miss the point. Most people will not get gravely ill but if the virus continues to spread as rapidly as it has, there will be massive strain on the health care system. With only 65,00 ICU beds in the states if you do your simple math you'll see the problem. With a limited number of ICU beds, ventilators, protective gear, and doctors and nurses trained in highly infectious pneumonia the world economy suffers not because of the virus but because of the inability of our healthcare systems to cope with those who become sick.

While the paranoia and fear may be irrational, the urgency to contain the situation is dire for an already strained healthcare system which we all rely on.

legit point. Although. In 2018 we had 80000 dead from the flu. Imagine the shock to the health system. And it was seasonal so the shock is similar to what corona would be.

I am not saying do nothing. Basic quarantine like don’t go to school or office if u sick. That alone should cut it down below 80000 dead.

but where was the panic in 2018? Most people don’t even know we had 80000 dead.

your point is legit. But the added stress is incremental just like the flu. Instead of quantum.

and the market reaction. 2018 we had a drop but nobody related that to the flu. And when I say people are morons. Not like ‘your all so stupid’. More like ‘your so stupid you got fooled by my boys!’
