The deal here is that things like cardio disease and car accidents are within our realm of control. We can implement stops to prevent the spread of heart disease and car accidents by enforcing laws, and through education about dietary health and why we should not be driving drunk, etc.

After all, if a drunk driver crashes into the car next to you, you are not also infected/dead. You have a zero chance of dying if someone down the street gets hit by a car an hour ago.

I've been thinking the same thing. I think the level of fear we've seen thus far has been somewhat irrational. But maybe expecting the masses to react rationally to a global pandemic is irrational in and of itself.
