"Militant atheism"? That seems a little harsh Schizo.
A book written 50 years ago will likely have many assumptions that over time were proved either false or at least partially incorrect. Accepting a book that was written by people thousands of years ago who could not understand a heliocentric universe without an ounce of criticism, as an entire unequivocal truth with knowledge inconceivable by any future man, is absolute ridiculous on the absolute lowest of fundamental levels. Who said I don't believe in Pascal's Wager? I'm just commenting on the silly situation of believing "facts" written in a book written by people who couldn't even figure out if the Earth is rotating. A higher power was a useful abstraction to these people because they lacked the tools to determine what caused natural phenomena. We've since moved on as a species.
The summary of my view is this: anything, faith included, that cannot stand up to criticism deserves to be mocked. We see this all the time on ET with "super systems" and people who seem to return high double digits on relatively stupid strategies. My view is simply an extension of this. I'm not doing anything but pointing out the absurdity of the situation.
