I am willing to bet that many of the marketsurfer gonzo hate vibers are really aliases of the same person on a search and destroy mission. If marketsurfer bothers them so much, why not just put him on ignore? Problem solved but rather they seem to exist to throw stones from the sidelines.

Back to the Market Surfer Limited (MSL Troll Brand) allegations, there is that old saying, if every one in the room is an asshole then its you who is the asshole. But this is new, I have never seen a case of "there are so many assholes I have to rationalize and fantasize that they are infact all one person, who is out to get me."

As for blocking you, this single person with a single alias does not view you in such a low manner that he has no time of day for you, no matter how many times you accuse him of being every single person who has ever bothered you online, I think long term with a bit of push, you can make a full recovery.

:D

Not a bad idea, how about you practice what you preach and put the TA members on ignore?

My real name would require a reduction in rank.
Lou Tenant

But seriously, I doubt I would use my full name here without some serious restrictions on who could, and could not use the site.
George
Soon to be Jorge, so I'll fit into the New World Order.

There is a lot of junk to sift through to get to good posts but a decent fraction of good posts I think would be unlikely to be made if they had to reveal their name. Look at the recent posts from hft about how high freq trading works. I think his golden handcuffs would make it impossible for him to post with his real name.

I wonder if Seeking Alpha had a troll/stupid arguing/spam problem before they got big enough to have what I assume is paid moderation? I'm guessing by now they've cleaned the clock of non-moderated sites that used to be really popular - sites like Yahoo Finance message boards.

I haven't been around ET long enough to have a solution for what ails it, but I heartily recommend the 'ignore' button. I doubt I'm missing much when the trolls/troublemakers decide to post the occasional non-inflammatory message.

Let me clarify again what I'm proposing here. Some of you guys are acting like it's an either or proposition. You can still post to the old ET all you want. That would not change. You would simply have an additional place to post if you so choose. In fact, it doesn't even need to be even a new site. Although if Baron wants to brand it he might want to do that. He could simply just create a category that says ET Pro on the main site. It would have it's own user and password to get in there and the messages would be invisible to the regular ET. Again, it is in "addition" to the current site. So for those of you making all these excuses that this won't work or that won't work, you can keep everything exactly the way that it is. You simply won't have access to ET Pro. I honestly don't know why this is so controversial.

Quote from Josef K:

My belief is that anonymity is a double-edged sword. It does enable some people to engage in abuse and act like lunatics, but it also allows other people to speak with a degree of candor that they would not feel comfortable with otherwise. Remember, the internet is accessible to just about everyone. It is the most public forum in the world. When you make a statement about yourself on ET, you're not just making that statement to the other members of ET, you're making that statement to the entire world. When you post something on the internet under your real name, you should not post it unless you are comfortable with everyone - including your family, your boss, your coworkers, the police - being able to read it and judge you by it. Anonymity allows people to discuss certain things such as their unpopular political opinions, their sex lives, their heroin addictions, that they would not wish to talk about otherwise. It enables free expression in the face of popular prejudice as much as it enables false bravado on the part of trolls.

But even with safe anonymity, there is no reason that the trolls have to stay with us. If they wished to, the ET mods could practically eliminate all trolls by engaging in consistent and firm moderation and enforcement of the board's rules. As far as I can see, the problem we have with trolls and harrassers is not the result of anonymous membership, but the result of the ET administrators not being proactive enough in removing these people from this site.

Good lord!, Josef K , what a bright and articulate person you are! Post more, will you please. We need you on ET.
